Key Background :
Continuing its tradition of pushing accessibility boundaries, Apple released a strong list of accessibility features before WWDC 2025. Commemorating 40 years of accessibility work, the technology industry leader is unveiling new features on iOS 19, macOS 16, and future releases. The features leverage machine learning and on-device AI to enable an adaptive, more tailored experience for individuals with disabilities.
One of the largest additions is Accessibility Labels in the App Store. The feature allows users to opt-in to announce whether an application supports features such as VoiceOver, Switch Control, or Voice Control. Such information published on app listings makes Apple’s users more capable of making informed choices based on respective individual accessibility needs.
macOS 16 also contains a new Magnifier app for low-vision customers. It has zooming capability to read small print easily and see intricate content in an easier way. The Magnifier is available through built-in Mac cameras and even external devices such as iPhones and USB cameras through Continuity Camera, making it readily accessible.
Another major addition is the Braille Experience app, arriving on iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Vision Pro. The application allows blind users to jot down notes, perform math in Nemeth Braille, and read files in BRF. It greatly enhances accessibility of Apple’s environment to people who rely on braille for day-to-day communication and learning.
In addition to that, Apple Watch will also bring support for Live Captions. It allows individuals to listen to live captions of audio content streamed from an iPhone, to allow deaf or hard-of-hearing accessibility. All these products not only capture Apple’s design-for-all philosophy but strengthen its market leadership as a trendsetter in disseminating technology into the masses.
