Zuckerberg Launches Meta’s Next-Gen Smart Glasses, Starting at $379

Meta has launched three new smart glasses, showing its big move into the consumer market. The main highlight is the Meta Ray-Ban Display glasses, priced at $799, which are the company’s first smart glasses with a built-in display.

Unveiled by CEO Mark Zuckerberg on Wednesday, the Ray-Ban Display glasses incorporate a small high-resolution digital display that can be controlled through the Meta Neural Band, a wristband powered by electromyography (EMG) technology. This allows users to perform hand gestures to navigate content, such as watching videos, reading and replying to text messages, and accessing other smart features. Importantly, the display disappears when not in use, ensuring it doesn’t interfere with normal vision. The device will be available in the U.S. starting September 30.

Alongside this flagship model, Meta introduced two additional products. The Oakley Meta Vanguard, designed for athletes involved in high-intensity sports like snowboarding and mountain biking, will be available on October 21 for $499. It offers a wraparound design, up to nine hours of battery life, a button for easier recording during helmet use, and 3K video capture. It can also sync with Garmin fitness watches to monitor key health metrics through Meta’s AI assistant.

The company also rolled out the Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 2), the successor to its original smart glasses. Priced at $379, this version doubles the battery life to eight hours and comes equipped with an upgraded 3K Ultra HD camera. The model is already available for purchase.

Meta has been developing its smart eyewear in partnership with EssilorLuxottica since 2019, and the new line underscores the company’s long-term vision of integrating advanced technology with stylish, everyday accessories. Zuckerberg also launched Horizon TV, a new app for Meta’s Quest VR headsets that lets people watch movies, shows, and sports, with content from Disney and Universal Pictures.

With these products, Meta wants to grow its presence in the smart glasses market by mixing style with useful technology for both daily use and sports activities.
