Haldiram Snacks to Invest Rs 300 Crore in Bihar for New Manufacturing Plant

Haldiram Snacks is the largest packaged food company in India and it has proposed to set up a new manufacturing plant at Bihar, which will attract an investment of Rs 300 crore and the company had been producing sweets, namkeen, bhujias, and other snack items. The announcement has been made by Sanjay Singhania, Vice President of Haldiram Snacks, during the event of Bihar Business Connect 2024.

The production is going to start by the end of mid-2027 on a 12-acre piece of land acquired from the Sikanderpur- Bihta areas. This is part of ongoing plans being undertaken by the House for expansion, enabling Haldiram to develop an augmented manufacturing capacity of finished and unpackaged foods and strengthen their grip over the market through increasing reach.

Haldiram Snacks is a part of Agarwal family and which was founded in the year 1937, in the city Bikaner, Rajasthan and it was a small shop retailing sweet and namkeen. Over time, it has grown to be the biggest snack food and sweets company in India. Today, the company functions across the globe and the products are sold in over 80 countries. The business of Haldiram was divided among the branches of the Agarwal family in Delhi, Nagpur, and Kolkata, which operate separately.

Major restructuring has happened in the packaged snack businesses of Haldiram in 2022. The Delhi and Nagpur companies will be demerged first and then merged under the new umbrella of Haldiram Snacks Food. This would be a part of the consolidation process for Haldiram so that it can streamline its operations, thus becoming more competitive in this fast-growing market of packaged foods.

The State Government in Bihar has taken the big step towards increasing the influx of investments through the summit of Bihar Business Connect 2024 and MoUs signed in the summit crossed Rs 1.8 lakh crore, surpassing the MoUs signed last year. Thus, with this commitment towards Bihar, the state has emerged as the leading destination for industrial investment. The new facility will increase the production capacity of Haldiram, enhance employment opportunities, and directly contribute to Bihar’s economy.
